Cupping has been used all over the world for more then a thousand years. Cupping therapy is based on creating a negative pressure and drawing the body tissues outwards. While it is difficult to design a blind study of the effectiveness of cupping, from what studies have been done, evidence confirms the effectiveness and the safety of the technique.
In our clinic we are using both dry cupping techniques - static, and tissue distraction release with movement. Both of these techniques are very popular among our patients. We now use silicone cups which do not require a flame, as did the old, glass cups.
You can receive Cupping as part of a Physiotherapy treatment or as part of a Massage Therapy treatment.
Cupping is now being used by world class athletes like Michael Phelps. The marks he shows vary depending on the patient. Usually the circles are fainter and they always disappear over a few days.
